News: great, good, and not so good

The great news is that Rocky got officially adopted today!  The adopter called yesterday and said she wanted to keep him.  He was quite shy for a couple days but then came out of his shell and as I recall that's what he did here as well.  I had a vet appointment scheduled for Thursday afternoon in town so she met me there (before the deluge started) and we did the paperwork to make it official.  He's a great dog, I really liked him, she really likes him, and I hope they will have a long and happy life together.  They are going to be moving to Montana later this year.

Hercules came along for a weigh in, and the good news is that he's put on a good amount of weight and is up to 80 pounds.  That's a very good gain since we were last there and it's showing on him too.  Raw food works wonders.  He had a bath on one of the hot days earlier in the week and he's looking pretty good now.

Zachary had a vet appointment today because he wasn't feeling well earlier in the week, he didn't eat one day, and when Clay got home last Sunday after a week out of town, Zach barely got up to greet him.  He seems to be a bit better lately, but is still having problems getting up and using the stairs.  I took him in to get checked out.  They did blood work and xrays to look at his spine and hips.  The xrays showed a lot of arthritis in his spine, which wasn't a surprise and could well be the cause of his stiffness.  Of far greater concern, is that the xrays happened to catch a view of what appears to be a large mass in his abdomen, possibly connected to the spleen.  He's going in for surgery tomorrow to see what is in there and hopefully have it all removed.  Cabell is going to go along as a possible blood donor if needed.  The vet said that it's about a 50/50 chance as to whether tumors on the spleen are malignant or benign.  Friday will be a rather anxious day around here.

So happy for Rocky and his new family. A pint-sized rottie would be a great dog :) Hoping for the best for Zachary ... it's so hard to see our sweet friends struggle with the vicissitudes of time.
