Roo: Small Shepherd, Big Dreams

He's classic shepherd from nose to tail.
His name is Roo. He's 8 months old and he's underweight. Roo was being kept in a crate that was much too small for him in the back of a truck after the owner's boyfriend moved in and "didn't like the dog." A good samaritan took him in to get him out of his horrible living conditions. He was underweight, probably because he was full of worms and was not being fed regularly. He was transferred to another good samaritan who wanted to help him, and did, but couldn't keep him. Today he came to me because I may be in a better position to find him the home that he needs.

Have stick, will fetch.

He's sweet and absolutely gorgeous and will look even better when he fills out and grows up. He's good with other dogs, house-trained, and cat-friendly! He may or may not be good with children; that's something we will need to figure out or place him in a child free home. At eight months of age he has already begun displaying the affection, devotion, and protectiveness that shepherds are known for.

I picked him up this afternoon and got so many good pictures of him that it has been hard to narrow it down to a few for this blog post. He's a very attractive dog and I'm sure will generate a lot of interest. He needs to put on some more weight and be neutered before he's available for adoption.

Roo meeting Gigi as he got out of the van.
So what's the "big dream" all about, you ask?  (I'm sure someone is asking.) I brought him home and immediately began introductions to the pack. I let Vince and Gigi out of the house and they ran to the van to meet the new guy. I brought him inside and met Trooper and Maya next; still no problem, Maya didn't even bother putting her fur up. He ran around checking out the house and interacting with the dogs, but the one he was most interested in was Gigi.
The three-way sniff with Maya and Trooper.

Gigi is the very definition of "aloof" when it comes to other dogs. She pretty much ignores most of them, most of the time. She's happy enough to have them around, as long as they don't bother her or intrude upon her bed or personal space. Roo intruded on everything, trying to get Gigi to play with him. He took an instant liking to her so I finally crated her and then let her into the bedroom by herself to get some peace. It's just funny because all the other fosters who have met her have pretty much left her alone after she indicated her lack of interest, but not Roo.

He's fitting in well around here and who knows, he may yet get her to play with him. Tomorrow I'll introduce him to Barkley who will be happy to play with him.

Roo, trying his best to get Gigi's attention.
Clearly, he didn't get the memo.
