Rajah

Rajah is a three year old neutered male Great Dane. He's housetrained and will also use a crate without objection. He's always lived indoors and he has good house manners, aside from being a sloppy drinker. He's underweight but we are working on that. The last time I made a batch of Satin Balls for a skinny Dane the dog got adopted soon thereafter so I put the rest in the freezer. I'll be breaking them out today and add a midday meal to his feeding schedule.

That's all the basic stats, now let me tell you about Raj. He had an owner he was very devoted to and who loved him very much. Raj has always known people in a positive way. He has some commands on board already, including a very nice sit and down. He also learned (and prefers) to drinking water directly from a running faucet. Clearly, Raj had good care and training early in his life. He was shaken up by the transition to foster care, but he recovered from the shock in two days or less. Since then he's showed us his true self and it's just as sweet and loving as any Dane we've known. He loves running in the pasture and playing with other dogs. Raj didn't eat for the first couple of days he was here, but after that he has fallen into our household routine seamlessly.

Danes, like shepherds, are notorious for having digestive issues and that may be the reason he's so thin. The former owner reported that just giving him peanut butter with a pill on one occasion caused his guts to go south like Sherman. Digestive issues usually have a solution, sometimes it's just a matter of finding the right food and sticking to it exclusively, sometimes they need an enzyme supplement, or a raw diet like we did with our Zachary. His weight issue could be nothing more than internalized stress he was experiencing in his former home. Whatever it is, fixing a digestive problem is far easier than fixing a temperament issue and I'm quite confident that Raj doesn't have the latter. I don't even know that he's got a digestive problem because his poop has been good so far. He may just need some time in a stable environment with good food to put on weight.

Running with Everest in the pasture.

Raj and Reina out at the front fence watching and listening to children across the road.

His tail is very expressive and it has a tiny white tip.

Don't look at him as a scrawny dog. He's tall and handsome. Just imagine him with
15 pounds of additional lean muscle, smoothing over those ribs, hip bones and vertebrae.

Enjoying a drink after the run.
