Friday, March 15th. I went to Old Dominion Animal Hospital for a 9:00 a.m. appointment, but really the day started at 4:00 a.m. It was a hectic night that ended in an early morning. Maya discovered the way out of her crate and didn't want to stay in the office at night, even with Vince and Toquima. She wanted into the bedroom, mostly to be near Trooper. I got to bed earlier than usual but got up when Maya escaped from her crate. I took her outside and then back up to the bedroom. She chased Trooper around the bedroom until I took mercy on him and put him into the office. Maya then settled down in the bedroom, but Gigi decided she needed to lay between us at the head of the bed. Even though she's a small Dane, and even though she folds up into a very small package, it is still a Dane sized package of dog making a space between us on her own pillow at the head of the bed. We started the day early.
Radix came down for a vet visit and I went in to meet them. He is such a happy and friendly rottweiler. It's hard to believe he's the 10 years of age that this former owners reported. He's doing well and he's in the best of all possible homes for a rottweiler.
I took Maya along, partly because I didn't feel comfortable leaving her at home since she couldn't be contained, and partly because she needed a vet exam. She checked out fine and even tested negative for heartworm, lyme, erlichia, etc. Even her stool sample was negative, a small miracle after living in the wild for the past month. She's got fleas and several big nasty ticks, but those are relatively minor problems. She's definitely becoming more trusting of me and she was even fine with the vet as long as I was holding her.

Her expression looks much more calm and trusting than it did a couple days ago. Lucky girl.
