Vince's history in a nutshell: He was adopted out of CASPCA as a puppy. He was returned twice, both due to family problems that were not his fault. The second time he was returned he was then 10 years old, didn't like be handled by strangers, and didn't like being confined. Luckily, Vince had a guardian angel at the shelter, she remembered him and he remembered her.
Vince has now retired to our place, but he's a very active senior dog. He will walk indoors, but when he's outside, he's always running. He won't stay in a fenced area like our dog yard and I don't even try. He's got no interest in running off, that's for sure. Vince is actually our best guard dog, always alert to sounds and he alerts to anything unusual. I have no doubt that Vince would defend me and the house if called upon to do so. Trooper is more fierce and intimidating, by far, but when he's off duty, Trooper is apt to be sleeping on his back with four feet in the air. Vince is the first responder to anything out of the ordinary.
We went to the CASPCA yesterday to borrow a dog trap, and a cat trap, and so Vince could visit Jennifer. He knows the way to her office but she met us outside when we arrived. Vince is loyal to me and devoted, and I think he's very happy here, but he loves Jennifer. He's kind of old and crotchety, he's picky about his friends. He's me in a lot of ways. He's not going to be winning any prizes at a dog show based on looks, but he's as loyal as a summer day is long.

He sounds like a great friend to have.
It's great that the old man Vince has such a nice retirement home. We all should be so lucky.
