Another white shepherd?

Pinky (front) and Kami (rear)
In all the years we've been doing rescue work, the number of white shepherds we've had can probably be counted on just one hand. How is it then that we've ended up with two at the same time?

Her name is Pinky. She's about 3-4 years old. She's been vaccinated and spayed, courtesy of the HOWS Project. She's about Kami's size, maybe a little taller actually, but she weighed only 45 pounds when taken to the vet the other day, again, courtesy of the HOWS Project.

Pinky is pure white, while Kami has a bit more color
to her fur, especially on her back and head.
Fortunately, when they returned Pinky from the vet, the owner surrendered the dog on the spot and she landed here. I've got her out in Daneland during the day with Dobby and Kami. She's a great playmate for Kami. Like the other denizens of Daneland she comes inside at night and has been fine in a crate in my office overnight.

I'm completing her de-worming, (five days with Panacure) and doing the same for Kami and Dobby. And we are feeding her, unlike the former owner. I wasn't planning on any more shepherds, or any more fosters right now at all, but you can't say no to getting a dog out of a bad situation.

Once again, I can't say enough good things about the incredible people who volunteer with groups like the HOWS Project and Dogs Deserve Better-Blue Ridge. They go out into rural areas, making contact with people who keep their dogs on chains and don't provide basic care for their dogs. The provide good dog houses, water buckets, food, vet care, and even get these dogs spayed and neutered if the owners will allow. They get dogs off chains by building fences and kennels. They even try to educate the human garbage they encounter. And when possible, if it's a good dog and the owner is willing, they get the dog the fuck out of there and onto its way to a real home.

Pinky seems sweet but I don't know much about her yet. She's a good playmate for Kami for now and she will be a good dog for some good person some day soon.

These pictures were taken when they first met. Pinky is a bit
reserved while Kami is very forward and pushy in her
greeting. Kami wanted to play with her immediately.

The girls have gotten along fine, which is not always the
case with two female shepherds.

Pinky only has about 3/4ths of her tail. That, and her lighter
color, help distinguish the two girls.
