Adoptions: Betty White and Thor

It seems like it's been a while since we had any movement around here, other than incoming dogs, but today saw two adoptions, Betty White and Thor, which is movement in the right direction.

We were up to 11 dogs, including several with medical issues, so it seemed like a lot. Still, you can't rush the adoption process. It takes the right people at the right time and the right dog. I think that happened today for both Betty White and Thor.

I didn't get a lot of pictures from Betty White's adoption today but we had done two prior meetings this week and it was finalized today. They have one deaf dog already so they are used to dogs not listening to them. Betty White is quite attentive even though she can't hear and she will liven up any household with her wiggly boxer butt.

Thor's folks have a five year old male shepherd already. They brought him along this morning and Thor barked at him. We walked them near to one another and I finally just held Thor so the other dog could do the obligatory butt sniff to get acquainted. It was better after that but I still wouldn't have thrown both dogs into the same car for the trip home so I offered to bring Thor to their place and work on introductions in their own backyard.

It wasn't far away and it was definitely worth the trip. Their dog was more relaxed in his own yard and Thor was more submissive being in another dog's territory. He was also interested in checking out the space and all the smells and we soon had both dogs off leash to get acquainted on their own. Their dog was very well trained and well socialized. He was soon inviting Thor to play and it wasn't long before Thor was reciprocating. The dogs seemed happy, the adopters seemed happy, and I felt good about it all.

I wasted no time in striking two crates from the kitchen area to reclaim some floor space. Both the recent spays (Greta and Callie) are doing fine. Della is still coned and crated for the most part and is still tolerating it better than I expected. One of the holes from where the drain was removed is still draining and she can reach that one, which isn't helping it heal. The sutures remain intact, however, and the wound closure looks good. It's been one week today, at least one more before the stitches come out.

Boxers look as natural standing on two legs as they do on four.

Thor with his new, older brother, learning the games he likes to play.

It was fun watching them get acquainted and learn to play together.
