Clay and I loaded up the basket with puppies and then transferrred them to a crate in the van. Lexie came along in the other crate and we went over to Green Dogs to meet people and most importantly, to meet a vet who had volunteered to come over to vaccinate and microchip Lexie and her puppies. The pups got their first parvo vaccine and were microchipped. Lexie got the parvo/distemper vaccine, plus the rabies vaccine, and got microchipped. She also had blood drawn for a heartworm test, which was negative.
A group of volunteers was present so the pups all got handled, passed around, and snuggled by new people. They also experienced the warm summer Virginia evening air, which made everyone happy to get back to their air conditioned space back home.
Lexie was wonderful. She really likes people and she showed it. She doesn't mind strangers handling her puppies, she just wanted some love and attention for herself. It was a good experience for them and it gets them closer to being ready to go outdoors into Daneland someday soon.
This is a puppy identification guide. It works best if you are holding the puppy because you need to know if the pup is male or female. But it was helpful to me today.
