I'm kind of a neglectful dog owner. I got Elvis in September of 2022. They had no vet history on him but they took him to get vaccines before he came to me so they were due again in September, 2023. I searched old emails and finally found the records in an old text message from September, 2022. This is why I don't ever delete anything. Anyway, I got him updated today, along with a heartworm test and discovered that he tested positive for erlichia. He probably had that before he came here, but now we are treating it. That's no big deal. The reason this all happened today was because Elvis sustained some damage in a dog fight a couple days ago and I just realized yesterday that it was serious enough that it really needed treatment.
In my defense, I'll say that he wasn't bleeding, he was walking, eating, and acting normally, tail up, he seemed fine. He probably would have been fine, but he really needed to be on antibiotics and now he is. Sometimes I think I focus so much on the foster dogs that my own dogs are neglected. It just depends. Some fosters need more care and attention than others, and my own dogs' needs vary from time to time as well. I have felt stretched a little thin lately.
Anyway, Elvis is fine, he was well cared for by Dr. Wood at Old Dominion today. He's going to be on restricted activity status for a couple weeks, however, and he will not like that.

I hope he has a quick recovery.
Oh no! Who would fight with Elvis? He seems so self-possessed and calm.
More broadly, I would love to hear your thoughts on managing dog conflict between permanent residents. You have mentioned that Maya and Della has a scrap a while ago; how did you handle their interaction after? I think you also said that male dogs tend to have louder but less serious fights?
