Catching up with Max and Griffin

I usually don't get my county dog tags in January like I should, but this year I did. In gathering up rabies certificates to show to the county, I discovered that Max was due for a vet visit, which we took care of last week.

Max has been needing to see the vet anyway because we've been battling an ear infection again. It's pretty easy to tell when Max has an ear infection because he will hold his head at an angle and shake it frequently, making it obvious that his big ears are bothering him. I had tried cleaning them out a few times, rather ineffectually, and treating them with what I had on hand, but it didn't seem that we were making much progress. They gave his ears a thorough cleaning and put that magic stuff in them that you just leave for a couple weeks. He also got vaccines, a heartworm test, and basic exam that pronounced him healthy. The records show him to be nine years old now. Of course that was based on an estimate of his age when we first took him in, but even with a margin of error, Max has joined the ranks of our mostly senior dog household.

Max was good through it all, or as good as any dog can be when having his ears messed with. He's not even close to being the toughest dog to vet that we have around here. Vince takes that title, with Trooper being a distant second.

With all the activity involving new arrivals, it seems like ages since we had the deaf white boxer Griffin around here, although he was our most recent adoption. I received a text message and these pictures from his adopter earlier this week. She said that his digestive issues have settled down and as you can see, the two dogs are getting along very well. They are both deaf so neither dog perceives the other as missing anything. They play, sleep, and then play some more. I'm guessing that they present a lot of excellent photo opportunities. It looks and sounds like boxer heaven.

Griffin is the one in front with the all white face.
The girl with the big black spot on her face is his new sister.
