We waited a couple weeks to neuter Clyde until the cough was cleared up. We waited several weeks more to fully incorporate him into the pack. Clyde was a bit of a wild child and it took a while for him to settle down. He's not exactly a model of obedience and calm even now, but I think he was ready to take the next step. That next step, adoption, is what he needs to move forward. I've had him indoors most of the time for the past couple of weeks. He's really pretty good, no accidents, no intentional chewing or destruction. He's just a tall dog with an inquisitive nose that can reach most anywhere.
It was clear that Clyde had never had any training, any real care, any positive interactions with people, and certainly no experience as a household pet. He was a puppy in a very large Dane-sized package. But Clyde was smart enough to learn from the dogs around him and he did. He's really a sweet boy and he's a handsome dog. When he puts on 10-15 pounds he will be gorgeous.
He went to a home that has a couple other dogs, a fenced yard, and prior Dane experience. That, plus a couple of kids, sounds like just what he needs, so I'm hopeful.
These pics are a retrospective of Clyde from the past few months.
