Sunday: walk, horseplay, and outings

Sunday morning was cloudy and damp. There was a bit of mist but it wasn't really raining. I loaded up the new boy, Sully, along with Maya and Diesel and we went out for a walk. Sully is accustomed to leash walks and he likes them. He knew what he was doing and he led the way, without pulling.

He's not eating yet, but otherwise he's been a model foster and has had a smooth and easy transition. That's from my point of view, of course. The fact that he isn't eating means that things aren't quite as smooth from his perspective, but still, he doesn't seem distressed or unhappy. Quite the opposite, really.

After the walk I took our two horses (Clyde and Serena) out to romp around the yard. The dog yard is too wet and muddy, and the pasture isn't much better because they've made a mud bog out of the areas around the gates and along the fence line.

In the afternoon we took Maya to the Green Dogs Santa Paws event at a local cider house. Maya saw several people who knew her from the blog. She has a fan base all her own. She was nervous and scared because of all the people around, but lots of people wanted to pet her and she liked that. She sticks close to me at events like this, giving the illusion of being a well-trained dog.

I didn't take any pictures there for some reason, but afterwards we went to the Tasting Room & Taphouse at Mount Ida Reserve. It's a pretty place, but it's a long and windy road to get there. I guess it's a vineyard and wedding venue primarily, but they also brew a couple beers and they were good. They aren't really dog-friendly but they have a nice covered outdoor space where we had a beer before moving on.

The only truly dog-friendly brewery around is James River Brewery in Scottsville, which was just a few miles down the road from Mount Ida. We ordered a pizza from a place up the street, carried it in and shared it with Maya over a couple beers before coming home.
