Welcome to Daneland

Diamond
The Puppy Palace and Della's Beer Garden have become Dane Land. The reason for the expansion and the work I've been doing out there came home today in the form of four foster Great Danes: Diamond, Karma, Cinderella, and Disney.
Cinderella

Back in August, 32 Great Danes were seized from a home in rural Virginia. A court hearing on Friday found that the animals were not being provided with adequate food, care, and shelter. Thirty of them were surrendered as a result, but the owners are appealing the ruling as to two dogs that they claim are "service" dogs. That's complete bullshit and the owners are the worst sort of garbage, but at least 30 of the dogs were sprung from the shelter today and now have a chance at a decent life.

In crates in front: Disney and Cinderella
Clay and I drove to King and Queen County today and picked up four of six that were transferred to Green Dogs Unlimited. The dogs have recovered a lot in the their time in the shelter. They look pretty good now although they have some on-going medical issues that will require care.
Disney can hear and she seems
to know her name. She's young.

The asshole owners were breeding deaf dogs. Diamond is white, completely deaf, and we're not sure about her ability to see. She's about six years old and they've been breeding her since she was a year old. That is not responsible breeding. That is breeding born of ignorance and greed.

Diamond is a sweet girl. Cinderella is probably her offspring. I'm sure these folks didn't keep any records of their breeding or probably even know who had sired any particular litter of pups. Diamond and Cinderella both seem to be in heat now, which is only good in that it means they aren't pregnant.

Karma (harlequin) and Diamond (white)
Breeding days are over for all these dogs, and hopefully for the owners as well.

They enjoyed the grassy open space to run.

Lack of access to water was one of the reasons
the dogs were seized from the breeders.

Half of Karma's face is merle, the other half is
harlequin. She has one blue eye and one brown.

Cinderella is deaf and may be only partially sighted.
Her eyes also suffer from entropion, which hopefully can be
corrected with surgery.
Karma

Diamond, mother of many over the years

Cinderella and Diamond may both be in heat now.

Disney is the most playful, also the youngest.

Disney also has two different colored eyes.

All the girls are pretty vocal. Karma talks as well as barks.

Oh my. What a tragedy and yet these dogs are the lucky ones.
I'm sure that they will recover in your care.
I guess whatever authorities are involved don't release the names and address of the former owners, because someone would go and firebomb their house.

I am so grateful these pups are safe with you. Wish we could stop these ignorant humans from breeding so much.

I just found this page by accident. I'm pretty sure I adopted a rescue from this group his name was Samsung. We just called him Sam. Sadly we were only allowed to love him for about 6 months. We found out in July he had bone cancer in right leg. While being operated for amputation he passed away. We loved him so very much and spoiled him rotten while he was with us. I miss him everyday
