When we went out to bring them in from Daneland last night, Dolly and Madison were nestled into straw beds in the Puppy Palace. Both girls had learned to use the doggie door and they appreciated the warmth and softness of fresh straw about a foot deep. But we brought them indoors and up to the big Dane crates in my office for the night. We had already put our six dogs into the bedroom, and the two foster rotties were in crates downstairs in the kitchen, so the two new Danish girls had the freedom to explore the office for a while before bed. Dolly went around and tried out each of the six dog beds in the office. Madison stayed next to Clay where she got the most petting. We put them into the two big crates and went to bed. They were content and settled down quickly and we didn't hear anything from them until morning.
They went back out to Daneland during the day on Sunday and we were away for much of the day. I did get some pretty new collars on them both in the afternoon that had just been donated. (Thanks, Brenda!) I sat out in Daneland with them for a while. Dolly would only come within an arms reach from me, just close enough to put her paw into my outreached hand. While I sat there holding her big paw, Madison would come walk between us, getting a full head to tail touch as she walked by carrying a toy in her mouth. Both girls like the attention, but they
I tried bringing Della and Serena into Daneland but they weren't really interested in doing so. When I finally did get them in, they still kept their distance from the new girls and the new girls were equally uninterested in nose-to-nose meetings. I guess it just wasn't time for that yet. There was no aggression, but there was also no love. We're still in the getting acquainted stage apparently and no one wants to rush it. The new girls aren't entirely comfortable yet and even Della respected that and kept her distance.
