I took Hugo over to Green Dogs late this afternoon for their weekly disc dog practice. There weren't many people or dogs there today, which was perfect for giving Hugo a chance to try the sport. He's clearly done it before and had some training to do it, or else he's just incredibly naturally talented. He loves it, and he has an extremely high drive and focus for it.
His drive is not typical of most goldens. It seems he was bred for field sports, probably hunting, rather than as a laid back, family dog. That's not to say he couldn't be a family dog, but he will need an outlet for that drive. I'm going to try keeping him indoors during the days and see if he goes stir crazy or if he can mellow out.
