Killian and his momma, Della.
Turns out that Della can sit on command if you're holding a treat.
Here's Killian either before or after having a drink of water.
Killian is sweet and good natured.
Della has the posture and bearing of a queen.
Elvis is always ready for a hike.
We encountered only one group of humans on our late day Saturday hike. It was a place where I couldn't get very far off the trail but we got to one side and stepped off the trail to let the group pass. Elvis wanted to meet them, but Dakota jumped behind me as they got close, stranger danger, but I was glad because he relying on me for security. After they passed, he came out and seemed to have a little conversation with Elvis about the encounter. Elvis is a good role model for human interaction. I'll have to take them out in public together.
We had over two inches of rain on Friday. The river is high and muddy and the stepping stones that usually provide dry passage over this little creek were mostly under water. We were only a couple miles into a six mile hike and I didn't want to do the rest of it with wet feet, so we went another direction.
That's a happy face on Dakota.
Ferns are ancient plants. They are very successful in shaded areas where they get adequate moisture.
