Back in business

We got home about 10:00 p.m. Saturday evening. Sunday started with less sleep than we needed, but it was time to get things going in our dog world. Bette arrived about 9:00 a.m. She's just here until Wednesday this time. She seemed happy to see me but sorry to be separated from her human at the same time. She knows that it's just temporary at this point so she wasn't too upset.

Next I went to pick up Bailey. She seemed genuinely surprised to see me. This was first time she's been boarded since she came here so she had no idea that it was just a temporary arrangement and that I'd be returning for her. I hated putting her through that, but she did very well while we were away and she was very happy to see me again.

The next stop was out to Waynesboro to pick up Marvel and her puppies. They all look great and you'll be seeing much more of them from now on. The puppies are still nursing but they now have teeth and are eating pulverized kibble mixed with warm water to make mash or gruel, puppy porridge we call it.

After getting everyone settled I was back on the road again to pick up the new shepherd, Bear, who had arrived just before we left town and had been staying with a temporary foster home. He had clearly already learned a lot so I think his transition to our home should be relatively easy.

That gets our numbers back up a bit, although our pack weight and its overall gravitas is still suffering from the hard hit of losing Della.

Bette is now a frequent visitor who slips into the routine around here seamlessly.

I used a milk crate to move the puppies two weeks ago but needed a much larger basket today.

They now have faces and developing personalities.

Bailey playing with Norman in the pasture when we got home.

Puppies exploring their new space.

Paisley and Bette

Puppy porridge was very popular.

Candace is still doing well.

The new shepherd, Bear, was reluctant to come out of his crate upon arrival, so Elvis climbed up to greet him.

A new batch of collar bling I collected on our trip.
I tried to get mostly smaller pieces this time.
