Ruff Living

As many of you know, we had a visit from a local television reporter yesterday who was doing a story on the Great Danes taken in by Green Dogs Unleashed.

Here's a link to article and video as it appeared online yesterday:

Clay's brother and my sisters, predictably, made snarky comments, but one of them was accidentally a good idea, a reality television show titled "Ruff Life." I like the title so much that I actually appropriated it for the title of this post and for my entire blog. (I'm sort of torn between "Ruff Living" and "Ruff Life" at the moment.)

Karma
I am not interested in a reality show about our life, but how about a show like "Bar Rescue" but for dog rescuers? "Bar Rescue" is a show about a guy who goes into failing bars, yells a lot, supposedly sorts out their problems, and remodels the bar. The show is very formulaic and predictable, and it seems that many of the bars continue to fail and ultimately close, but they get a nicely remodeled facility as a consequence of the show.

L to R: Cinderella, Disney, Karma, Diamond
The young woman who did the TV spot was a one-woman
film crew. She handled the camera, did the interview, and
played with the dogs.
Translate this to a non-profit model. Brent and Clay rescue dogs. Their house is in shambles because of the damage caused by hundreds of dogs over the years. They spend all their time taking care of the dogs and getting them adopted so many things fall off the to-do list. In comes the Ruff Life TV show with some handsome, highly telegenic host to assess the situation. The host is backed up by a cadre of workmen, perhaps less handsome but more skilled, who give Brent & Clay's place a makeover, fixing dog damage, catching up on deferred maintenance, and building a proper rescue facility suited to the rescuers' needs. For us, it would be a kennel of sorts or a big "dog room", with a concrete floor, attached to the house, with good fencing, access to individual or multiple dog play spaces, indoor/outdoor access for the dogs, dog wash station, heating and cooling, etc.

If anyone knows anyone who works for a television station, feel free to pitch this idea. We would happily volunteer to be the pilot episode.

local has one of these laying around that their dog doesn't use,
the other two girls would love to borrow them.
