A temporary foster Dane

The lovely Quinly is with us temporarily while her foster mom is out of town. She is a sweet and beautiful young Great Dane. She's a little more than three months old so she's an age and size that we haven't had around here. Quinly arrived late afternoon which was perfect for her to spend some time in the a/c yard, which is shaded at that time. She could observe the other fosters from a distance. Della and Maya had to meet her, of course, and they were fine with her. She came in the house and sat with Clay while Della and I were off on our evening walk. I let her meet the Saint Bernard, Adelaide, later in the evening and then crated them both side-by-side in the kitchen for the night.

Della and I have been needing a walk and we finally got out in time to finish the two miles at the park just before dark. We took Adelaide along because Adelaide had me up several times for a total of several hours last night because she hadn't had enough activity during the day. I had her out in the Daneland all day with Olivia and Paisley today, and then the walk this evening with Della. All of that and being next to the new puppy I hope will keep her quiet tonight.

It was the first time I had walked Adelaide. I used a rope harness on her like I use on Della. She was not bad on the leash at all - no pulling, thank goodness.

Away weekend, back home

Clay and I went out of town for the weekend. It was really nice to get away, even for a very short time. We saw Mary Chapin Carpenter and Emmylou Harris at Wolftrap Saturday evening, after seeing them in concert in Charlottesville earlier in the week. We hit some breweries on the drive up and a few more on the drive home. Explored some new areas and just generally enjoyed ourselves.

The dogs were all fine when we got home. I had farmed out the Saint back to Erika for the weekend and she dug out of her fenced dog yard, but just because she wanted to be with everyone else. Della slept in bed with the house sitter. Paisley and Olivia co-existed in Daneland without incident.

I want to start planning some more weekend getaways this fall. Maybe some camping and hiking with Maya.

The pictures are a variety that were still on my camera from the last couple of weeks or so. Only a few are from this weekend.

Della claimed her spot in bed with the house sitter.

Cosmo was with us just for a day when Ginger was also here.

Max with a ball. He will go after it if you throw it, but he doesn't really bring it back for another throw.

Emmylou Harris on stage from that same concert in Charlottesville last week.

Apparently the fence had been buried. She dug it up.

Adelaide's outing

I did some re-arranging of dogs today because we are going away for the weekend, well, just Saturday night. The English Setter girls got adopted. I put Paisley out in Daneland with Olivia to avoid any conflicts with my girls when I'm away. Adelaide moved indoors to work on her house manners today and then she'll be staying back at Green Dogs for the weekend. This evening we took Adelaide to Decipher Brewery for her first public outing and first brewery experience.

Her tail was tucked and she was a bit freaked out by it all, but she handled it very well. There was quite a good crowd there tonight and of course lots of people wanted to meet her. She was a bit reserved but she was good with everyone and soon took an interest in people coming and going. She allowed everyone to pet her who wanted to, including a couple of children.

Everyone loved her, of course, and it was a good experience for her even if it was more people than she's ever seen in one place at one time. I forgot to bring the treats inside to have people pass out to her, but I gave her a few bites of my dinner and she enjoyed that.

It was a good day for Adelaide but an even better day for the setters, Charlotte and Lilibet. They were both adopted, together, by a woman who is just crazy about them. I think they will be well spoiled girls and I'm very happy that we could keep these two together.

Charlotte and Lilibet in their new home, happy together.
