Getting Maya back on the trails

I haven't hiked with Maya since she had those lumps removed. She was recovering for a while and it was too hot. She's not as insistent on going with me all the time like she used to be and the heat is harder on her now that she's older. But she's healed up now, the weather is better, at least for now, and she's been acting like she was interested in going along.

With the carnival up at Pleasant Grove, we started at the trailhead behind the library. There's a nice 2.5 mile route that is completely in the woods and no where near the carnival. Sparky's watering hole is near the midway point so it's a good place to pause and cool but the girls wanted to keep moving this evening. We got a late start and were losing daylight with each step. It's a familiar route and final quarter mile is very familiar, which is fortunate because we were really pushing the boundary of darkness at that point.

These two girls walk very well together. They are both attuned to pretty much the same sort of sights, sounds, and smells. I didn't see any deer but they acted like they did a couple times. That really piques their interest and they get excited but they don't pull me too hard. A good walk was had by all.
