A night of firsts

Clay and I took two girls out tonight. That would be a first, but these two were dogs and we've done that before. Charlotte and Lilibet needed to meet a cat so we took them to Clay's mother's place to meet Portia.

Just getting them out of Daneland and into the car was a bit of a struggle. They were clearly happy and content where they were and had no interest in going anywhere. Likewise, when we got to Berta's place they were happy in their crates in the van and didn't want to get out. We took them inside separately and it would have been better for them to go together, but I was thinking of the cat and figured that one dog at a time was plenty. Meeting the cat was almost a non-event for these two. They showed no aggression or prey drive at all, and more indifference than curiosity even. They were nervous and scared but they did go up to Berta to seek out attention and affection.

Getting them back in the van was easier as we were leaving. Once one of them was in the other went in readily. Then we went off to Decipher for their first brewery visit. They got out of the van more readily this time but they are absolutely terrible on a leash. It's not that they pull, but they walk around you, each other, and any tree or post that you happen to pass.

We went in and took a table near the entrance. A number of people came up to greet them and they were really pretty good with that. They like people. Two dogs on two leashes was a little hard to handle, but the fact that they stick close together worked in my favor here. They would get up and greet anyone who approached them or anyone who came through the door, but otherwise they settled down under our table for the most part. We haven't had them very long yet and I can't say that they even know me all that well at this point, so all things considered it was a good experience.

This is Lilibet (Lily) meeting Portia.

Our friends at Decipher had some firsts of their own this week.
The Virginia Craft Beer Guild held it's annual meeting and awards this week.
One of Decipher's beers won a bronze medal, and another won a gold.
The gold medal winner also won the Best in Show award!
