Legolas, Prince of the Woodland Realm

We just call him Lego, but his real name is Legolas, Prince of the Woodland Realm. It's the name of a character from Lord of the Rings. If are like me and didn't know, I'll save you from looking it up. It's a rather lofty name for what is really just sort of a big goofy puppy. He needs to grow into it, like his body needs to grow into his head and legs. He's our latest Green Dogs foster and I just picked him up today.

He came from a rural shelter showing obvious signs of rather severe neglect, not by the shelter but from his former owners. But he's been vetted, neutered, wormed, and vaccinated (yes, we believe in them), and his appetite is good so I think he's on the road to recovery. He's only about a year old and he acts it. He's sweet, goofy, and playful, pure pup. He met everyone around here today without any problem. TJ gave him a bloody nose, but that's because TJ is an asshole and Lego didn't read his signals to back off like he should have. 

Maya and I took him out for a hike this afternoon. He loved it, but really didn't have a clue what we were doing out there. He doesn't pull so much but he is all over, never moving in the same direction for long. His house manners seem pretty good and he knows some basic commands (sit, down, and shake). When he's confused about what you want he tends to "down" and that's not the worst thing in the world. 

He may not look like much now, but this is going to be an awesome dog. He's got a great personality, is well socialized, and he will grow into a stunning specimen of Danehood.

He's mostly head and legs at this point.

He's so goofy that's it hard to catch him in the noble Great Dane
look, but he's got it. 

His gray coat is a good match for the late winter meadow,
but he will develop a nice shiny silver/blue coat.

The water crossings were new and confusing to
him. He jumped the first one or two, but he saw
Maya just wade across and realized that he could
do that too. 

He's going to be putting away some groceries for
the next few weeks to try to pack some meat onto
that scrawny frame of his.

Occasionally he got with the program
and walked pretty nicely.
