Overnight Houseguest

I picked up Henrietta from a pilot who flew into the Charlottesville airport shortly after noon on Saturday. That was her second flight of the day making her way out of South Carolina. She was amazingly friendly and affectionate towards me right from the start, as she had been with both pilots as well. This girl really likes people.

We had someplace to go Saturday afternoon so I did some quick introductions with the household dogs and then got her into a crate. All the dogs swarming around her intimidated her quite a bit, so she didn't resist too much going into the crate where she would be safe and secure.

We did some more introductions Saturday evening and by then she was pretty much ok with the dogs who had been sharing the office with her in the afternoon, but she was still shy and scared of the others. Our dogs knew the scared dog syndrome and they mostly gave her some space and didn't push themselves on her, except for Harvey.

Harvey likes everyone and he wants everyone to like him. He really didn't understand why Henrietta didn't want to be his friend. Sunday morning came around and he was still trying his best, but she wanted nothing to do with him. He laid outside her crate when we were up in my office. He tried to play with her. He tried and tried again, to no avail.

We took her to meet Debbie in Culpeper at noon on Sunday who was taking her on to another foster home. Harvey never did break through, but it wasn't for lack of trying.

Henrietta is a sweet, friendly dog and we wish her well.

That's Harvey standing behind Henrietta,
while she is trying to climb on the counter
to get away from him.

That's Henrietta in the crate, rear left, and Harvey
laying on the floor outside her crate, trying to be
her friend.

On the car ride Sunday morning she never really
settled down. She may have been waiting for the
car to get airborne like her flights had yesterday.
We've had so many shy dogs lately it was nice
to have one be so friendly right from the start.
