Interior Design

The first box wasn't sturdy enough. Paulaner
broke though and proceeded to settle in for
a nap. That's Killian on the blanket in front.
Today I made some design changes to the puppies' living accommodations. Basically they had a sleeping area and the rest was covered in newspapers to collect the copious quantity of poop and pee that the twelve of them constantly produce. They know to leave the bed area for the paper-covered territory to do their business, so I decided to increase the bed/play area and shrink the bathroom territory.
Covering the boxes didn't last either, but that's ok. They
were introduced to the look, feel, and taste of cardboard.

That makes clean up easier for me (and that's a serious consideration). Also it moved the bathroom territory away from the entrance used by the humans and Della. The pups quickly took to it, still crossing over to the papered area for nature calls, and they now have more sleeping and playing area.

The other change we introduced to their living area today was boxes, just ordinary cardboard boxes for them to explore and climb on. They are really getting into the inquisitive stage so it took no time at all for them to explore the new boxes and climb all over them.

It's not a box, but I also introduced a small plastic step stool
so we have something to sit on in there. Guinness was soon
up on it as well.
This shows the divisions between the sleeping
areas and the reduced bathroom space.

Sierra really likes snuggling.

Sierra joined Carlsberg in the 10
pound and over club today.

I have some great ideas for climbing toys once we move to
the puppy palace and play space outdoors, but for now we
are limited in space. The boxes worked well though.

Della got us up at 3:00 a.m. last night wanting to see the puppies. I took her in there and she
nursed for a short time, mostly just long enough to interrupt my sleep patterns.

The new sleep/play space is in the foreground. It's also where our entrance is. The puppies mob
whoever comes in, so it's very nice to have that happen in a clean space now.
I don't think very many of the pups are actually getting anything here, but they all pile on
and try to push their way in.

Can I hazard a guess that Sierra will be joining the pack (as Clay's favorite)??
