Cinderella and Karma

Today was Cinderella's spay day. It went well and she's back at home now sleeping it off in a crate in the kitchen. That makes for two of the foster Danes in the house now and just two out in Dane Land, so the house is filling up. That situation should be remedied within a week or so I hope, because both Disney and Cinderella have homes to go to now that they are spayed.

Cinderella was good at the vet, and she rode nicely in the crate both ways. Bringing her into the house is necessary after the surgery I think, but it's also new and confusing to her. She doesn't see well and she doesn't have her support group (Diamond and Karma) around her like she did in Dane Land. She will adjust and learn the new routine, I'm sure. Her crate is very near the door so she doesn't have to navigate her way around the house for now. Every once in a while we get a reminder of how poor (or non-existent) her vision is. The other day outdoors she ran into something in the yard. Today at the vet's office she ran into a column as we were leaving. Also, when they brought her out from the back she didn't recognize me until we were close enough that she could smell me, then her tail started to wag. She's incredibly calm and trusting and willing to be led around, either by me or the other dogs. She has learned to cope with her handicaps very well.

Karma is the most vocal of the four Danes.
She talks, a lot. You WILL listen.
I missed several hours of work today, which I'm making up in the evening. I took Cinderella in for her spay appointment this morning. In the afternoon I took Karma to a different vet and then picked up Cinderella before coming home. In the meantime, Clay picked up Zeus who is coming back to us for the weekend, but the great news there is that he will be adopted next Monday! We are very happy for Zeus.

Karma has a beautiful head and face. Actually
she has two faces. Depending on which side you
are viewing, you get either the brown eye with
merle markings or the blue eye on the harlequin side.
Karma went to the vet because we were worried that she might be pregnant. That's the same concern we had with Diamond last week, but the outcome for both girls was the same, no puppies!!, and I think I'm the happiest of anyone about that.

Karma is a big boned gal, she's broad shouldered and deep chested and she's 117 pounds of solid, stocky Great Dane. She's been getting bigger and wider since she arrived and we're a little paranoid since all these girls came to us unspayed and with a history of being bred. The vet did an ultrasound and didn't see anything, however, so we're going with the story that she's just big. She is in heat, as is Diamond, so it's going to be a few weeks yet before those two girls can have their surgery and move on to their new homes.

She is a big girl in every direction.

Love those ears.
