Remember Pinky?

Do you remember Pinky? Well, grab a drink and settle down because Pinky has a story to tell.

She was a HOWS Project rescue from back in February. HOWS had been helping Pinky and other dogs with the same owner for a couple of years. Pinky was severely underweight, only 45 pounds, when a HOWS volunteer took her to the vet, yet again, and she was diagnosed, again, with intestinal parasites. Providence intervened on Pinky's behalf when they arrived back home that day and the owner agreed to surrender her. Pinky came here that same day and bunked with Kami, another white shepherd, until Kami was adopted.

Pinky has always had a wonderful smile, even when she
really didn't have much to smile about. I'm sure there's a
life lesson there if anyone's looking for one.
Pinky wasn't out of luck, however, far from it actually because she had caught the eye of a prior adopter who now had Kona, another German Shepherd who had formerly been known as Cookie. Kona (formerly Cookie) had come from some hell hole in Kentucky where she lived among the garbage and debris strung around her owner's trailer. Kona had experienced a massive reversal of fortune, for the better, and is now living the good life as a pampered pet with a wonderful couple in northern Virginia.

Several weeks ago I met this couple up in Culpeper and they took Pinky home to foster after receiving Kona's somewhat begrudging approval. I've received regular updates and pictures. The two girls seem to have developed a working relationship and Pinky has flourished under their care. This was a dog who had lost half of her tail when the former owner's piece of shit boyfriend decided to cut it off. The same human garbage had more recently painted her blue for some unfathomable reason. Pinky has had a couple baths since then and she's now as pure white as any dog I've ever seen, almost blinding to look at in bright light. She's also been house trained, crate trained, and has been learning basic obedience, leash walking skills, and soon, agility.

They've now made the decision to adopt her, cementing Pinky's position in the household and equaling, at least, Kona's increase in standard of living and quality of life. They tried out a couple of new names for her and seem to have settled on Jamma.

The adopters started a fundraiser for The Hows Project and invited folks to donate to that wonderful group and you can do so by clicking on this link.  And/or you can show your support to Promises Animal Rescue, the group that took in Pinky, by clicking here.

This is the life all dogs should live -- comfortable, secure, loved.
