Maya and Serena

I like walking these two girls together. Very different size and shape, but very similar color, and they walk well together. Serena is generally out front, not that she knows where she's going or how to get there, but she's very excited and bold. She doesn't know what she doesn't know, and so she doesn't worry about it and just pushes onward. They did a little bit of sniffing, particularly in the beginning, but both girls are mostly interested in living and moving things. We didn't see any deer, but at the end of the hike a squirrel ran up a tree right in front of us, sending both dogs into high alert.

It was a windy day but the sun was out and the temperature was perfect for hiking. We went 3.5 miles. We encountered a few other walkers, and one runner who brushed my shoulder as he passed by from the rear without giving any warning or indication of his presence. Fortunately he was past and gone before we even knew he was there and the dogs had no time to react. Those people should be required to wear bells.

Dogwoods are in bloom now and the redbuds in the woods
are still very pretty too.

Tails held up and curved, happy and excited dogs.
Jumping a log across the trail. We encountered
a few new ones today, brought down by the wind.
I stopped to snap a picture of this pretty clump of flowers in
the sun. Maya had to see what had caught my interest.

Maya walked out front part of the time and
back with me partly. I never really need to
worry about where she is.

It was quite windy today, as you can see from Serena's ears.

I thought this was a particularly nice picture of Maya.

The squirrel sighting.

I need to get a current weight on Serena. She's bigger, bulkier, than Della. Her head is much bigger.
