Olivia!

One thing I always promise each foster dog is an upgrade in their quality of life. That usually isn't a difficult promise to keep because so many fosters come from such bad situations. Although it's less than ideal, even being a foster around here represents an update in the standard of living for most dogs that we take in. I feel like that promise was fulfilled when Olivia was adopted today.

She had been abandoned by her former owners, left behind in a 10x10 kennel out back when they moved. Olivia's guardian angel was looking out for her, however, and she fell into the loving care of a good Samaritan who took her to a vet and got her into a boarding facility and ultimately to Green Dogs where she became our foster. She was always an easy foster and she even took on some responsibility for fosters who came in after her, helping them get settled and accustomed to the routines around here. Olivia is a sweetheart, but she's also very energetic and she needed a home where she'd have an outlet for that energy and also some training.

It took a while but then, suddenly, there were two or three potential applicants who were interested in Olivia. One of them came out to meet her today and they were properly impressed by her and left here with her this afternoon. She has at least one running partner and another who might prefer to walk, but that's fine with Olivia too. They seemed committed both to training the dog and giving her adequate exercise and that should go a long way towards making this a successful adoption for everyone. And they passed the first and most important test, being smarter than the dog, although is a particularly rigorous test in Olivia's case. She will give them some challenges but she will also give them enough loyalty, love, and devotion to make it all worthwhile.
