Patch at the reunion

He's very gentle taking treats.
Patch hasn't even been adopted yet, but I took him to the VGSR reunion on Sunday anyway.  He has a lot of fans and supporters among the rescue and he makes new ones everywhere he goes.  He rides well in the car, he's good with people and with dogs, so he was the most obvious choice of a dog to take along.

He really enjoys a social event too.

There's something about that dog that makes people want to touch him.  As skanky as he is, everyone wants to touch him, pet him, love on him.  And he eats it up.  Whatever he's got going, he works it to the hilt.

There was a Reiki practitioner at the reunion, and an animal communicator.  We didn't get to see the communicator but a woman who had the last time slot of the day offered it to Patch.  We had to head home before that and as you might suspect I'm not a big believer anyway.  We did see the Reiki lady, however, and she commented that the dog had a lot of sadness in him.  Other people have said the same although personally I don't really see it.  I'm not sure if it was her or the woman who offered up her time slot with the communicator, but one of them suggested that Patch's former owner had died.

That made a lot of sense to me.  He's a well behaved dog who loves people and is very gentle and well socialized.  He had obviously had a good home at some point in his life.  It happens all too frequently when an older person dies that their asshole children dump the dog who had been their parent's constant companion in their last days.  That sometimes consists of just turning the dog out or abandoning it to fend for itself.  That's a plausible scenario for how a dog with Patch's personality could have ended up in the condition in which he was found.

I have noticed more tail wagging lately.
I'm seeing the vet with him again on Wednesday to re-check his skin and his weight and talk about neuter surgery.  It seems that the un-descended testicle stuck somewhere inside him may be the cause of a lot of his problems.  Although the former owner must have loved the dog, whoever it was didn't do him any favors by not getting him neutered.

Patch loves to roll
in the grass in the sun

He was tired when we left and
slept all the way home.
