He is now Declan (deck-lan), and thanks to Katie and at least one more person at Creatures Great & Small in Charlottesville, he's now got much shorter hair but still looks like the wolf hound that he is. His testicles were found and freed from the matted fur so they can be removed by a vet next week. He was reportedly good throughout the process, bath included. He looks 100 percent better and he must feel so too.
Here's some before and after pictures, and some pictures of him and River together in Daneland today.
I took River out to Daneland after both dogs had eaten this morning.
They got along fine, no problems.
River is still thin but his coat looks good.
The wolf hound is a bit overweight if anything, and his coat looks like hell.
There was a bit of male posturing by the neutered River, but
the intact wolf hound really didn't react to it.
Here's a look at the back end prior to grooming.
He was very good with the bath, which he desperately needed.
The dog I picked up two and half hours later was a very different dog from the one I had dropped off.
River wasn't sure it was the same dog either.
River tried to mount him and hump him, but Declan wasn't phased by it at all.
I gave him a new padded leather collar, foster tags, and a new name - Declan.
He looked happy before, but now he looks like he feels good too.
