This small one has had several names, but we'll call her Lady. She was said to need "no kids, and no men, and no other dogs" so we took her in just to see what would happen in a house with no kids, two men, and lots of dogs. It hasn't been 24 hours yet, but we are all still here and still in one piece.
I sang my dog-soothing lullaby to her on the drive home, yeah, I'm sure that did it. But even before then, I reached into a crate and leashed her and she came with me willingly. She hopped into the crate in my van on her own. When we arrived at home, I brought out Buster and Arby to meet her first. Then we went inside where it was baptism by fire; Maya, Buster, Luna, Arby, Della, and Serena came at her fast and heavy. Our dogs are pretty good about greeting newcomers, they know the drill, but still, that's a lot of new noses coming at you. The most she ever did was to give a little low growl, asking for some space, which she got.
When Clay came home she came up to him and put her front feet up on his leg asking for some attention. She came upstairs easily enough, but had to be helped coming down although she seems to be learning that quickly. She went into a crate without any problem. She does fuss when left alone, but she quieted down quickly last night after we closed the doors to the office and bedroom as we all went to bed.
Time will tell. The first 24 hours aren't enough to tell much about a dog, good or bad, and it hasn't even been a full 24 yet.
