Elvis has left the building

Elvis came to us in September, 2022, when his former owner went into hospice care. The agency that was managing the former owner's care contacted me about taking him in because we had met when dealing with the dogs that belonged to another of their clients (Rufus and Mellie). Elvis moved in here with the most seamless transition of any dog we've ever had. The first night at our house he came up to the bedroom and laid down on one of the pillows, clearly claiming what had always been his spot in his former home. It only took a little convincing for him to move down to the bottom center of the bed and that had been his spot ever since.

We took Elvis out to a couple breweries when he first arrived and he was the most sociable dog I had ever seen. He sought out people to give him attention and/or food and was often rewarded with both. I made the decision to keep Elvis as one of our own, perhaps selfishly, but it was nice to have a dog that we could take anywhere and seemed to enjoy everything. When it came time to figure out what to do with our personal dogs when we move to France, Elvis was the easy one. Although he would handle the move easily enough, it was also clear that Elvis was the most adaptable and adoptable dog we have and we had several offers from people who wanted him.

A woman I've adopted several dogs to over the many years that I've known her recently lost her last dog and wanted another. She indicated an interest in Elvis and it seemed like a good fit for both of them. Last Friday I took Elvis to our vet to get him up to date on everything. Friday evening I gave him a bath in the tub here at home, and Saturday afternoon we drove up to his new home in northern Virginia. We aren't leaving until August but doing it now gives plenty of time to make sure it works out and to find another placement if doesn't for any reason. Elvis has plenty of options. It also lightens the load around here a little bit at least, which I need right now.

He still needs to learn to use a doggie door but I'm sure he will. He has a big back yard to hunt around in and constant companionship.

Good luck to Elvis in his new fur-ever home.
