Philly is cured!

I got word on Saturday that Philly and Julie were both finally cured of ringworm. They are two fosters I had taken in from the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA because of ringworm. Julie also had demodex, which had not been effectively treated and it has flared up again. So Julie is staying with us for a while yet, but Philly returned to CASPCA today. She was scheduled to be spayed today and then will be up for adoption. She is a sweet, sweet girl, so I'm sure she will go quickly. I just hope it is a very good home. I would have kept her and adopted her out myself in order to control where she went, but I really need to reduce the number of fosters around here and there is no reason to believe that she won't get a great home.

Philly is a funny girl, a lot like our Molly in one way. Both are extremely confident dogs at home, outdoors, in the kennels, dog sheds, yard, and pasture. But take them out of their element, particularly to a man made place, and they revert to being scared little girl pups. Molly is terrified of anything artificial. She is scared to walk on the downtown mall. When she first went to a prospective adopter's home, she huddled in the corner and shook in fear until she came back to our place. Philly was similarly scared when I took her to an adoption event in Gainesville a couple weeks ago. She refused to even walk into the Petsmart store until I got Score to lead the way. But at home, Philly acts like she rules the world and all the dogs in it.

She will come around, she just needs exposure to more people, places, and things. She was not going to get that here, so it's probably a good thing that she went back to the SCPA where she will get more socialization with people and new places.

Things were always lively around here with Philly. You can see that her tail is blurred in every picture. It never stopped moving and neither did she.
