Daphne came on Wednesday I think and has had a bit of dry, hacking cough since she got here. It was annoying enough to both of us that we went to the vet on Friday. It's apparently just kennel cough or something like that, essentially a canine cold. I wanted to make sure it wasn't pneumonia but the vet said her lungs sounded fine and her temperature was normal.
Since we were there anyway, they drew blood for a heartworm test, which was negative, thankfully. She didn't eat for the first couple of days upon arrival, so they weren't able to get a stool sample. What impressed me so much about this rottweiler was how gentle and easy she was with those rather invasive procedures. We didn't need a muzzle and she let strangers handle her without so much as a low rottie rumble.
She is sweet and very much a rottweiler, in spite of her petite (60-65 pound?) size. Daphne does the rottie lean, and melts at your feet, belly up, for as much contact and attention as she can get.
Daphne didn't eat for a day or so upon arrival, which isn't unusual for most dogs, but it's a little unusual for a rottie. Their general attitude is that being hungry on top of being relocated just makes a bad situation worse. But she's beginning to settle in. I haven't really seen a smile out of her yet, but I have noticed a little more spring in her step. She is maybe three years old and was already spayed when she got here. We don't know anything about her former life, but she sure seems to have been well treated and well cared for. She is just a real love bug, all the rottweiler you'd ever want in a compact package.
