Bear started making some noise from his crate downstairs in the kitchen about 5:30 a.m. this morning. I had slept better than most nights and was unlikely to get any more, so I got up in case he really needed to go out. Bailey and Paisley came down with me, Elvis remained in bed because no one woke him. Bear went out but came back in pretty quickly and started playing with Bailey.
Candace sleeps downstairs in the front room, but she heard the activity and got up to go out with the others. Bear tried to play with her when they came back inside. Candace wasn't interested but perhaps was a bit flattered that the handsome young male wanted to play.
Sharing a bed with Elvis
I'd consider Bear to be crate trained and house trained, but he is still quite young and gets into things. That's one of my gloves he's holding between his paws. You can take anything from him, however, and he will accept a substituted, more appropriate, chew thing in its place.
Bear and Bailey shared a bed, a ball, and a couple of chew toys. Bear is smart enough to respect her authority.
On today's walk I used a Gentle Leader and short lead because I wanted control without much effort. It worked out very well.
We spotted this deer not 20 yards away. We stopped and stared and he did the same. There were at least two others behind him. Bear wasn't reactive the way Bailey would have been so we just did a mutual stare off. The deer even held position when I reached for and used my camera. Their camouflage is pretty much perfect for a Virginia hardwood forest in the fall and winter.
I got Bear to "up" on some picnic tables for I could get some pictures.
