I had a 2:30 appointment with the vet, but before that I took Sugar to the SPCA to meet cats. She was nervous being there, particularly riding the elevator, but she handles it well and even enjoyed it once she settled down. They brought out a test cat, who is apparently very good at reading dogs, and the cat didn't seem at all concerned about the dog. Sugar wasn't particularly interested in the cat and certainly didn't make any aggressive moves. At one point I insisted on the two going nose to nose again and the cat hissed and swatted at the dog's nose but didn't make contact. Even then Sugar didn't react aggressively, so I think she did very well.
Her tail seems to be healing up nicely, and her antibiotics are completed, so she's ready for another foster home or an adoptive home. I'm taking her to the VGSR adoption day in Gainesville on Sunday.
On Saturday, I'm taking Sunny over east of Richmond to a very good potential home. They are former adopters that I like very much, so I'm really hoping that things work out.
Today's vet visit for was Bubba primarily. He got his vaccines and the 3-way blood test. He was negative for heart worms, but had a strong positive test for Lyme Disease. We also scheduled his neuter surgery. He was a pleasant surprise. He rode well in the car and he was friendly and cooperative with the vet. He just finished a 3 day course of panacure (for possible worms), so I put him together with Sunny, Teddy, and Belle when we got home. He seems very dog-friendly too. Nice dog.
Boomer also made the trip with us today to discuss his weight problem. The food and the enzyme supplement haven't helped. If anything he's lost a couple pounds. We drew blood for more extensive blood work and they also did a fecal smear, which showed a lot of coccidia. Clay picked up the meds for that on his way home and we started them this evening. I don't know if that is going to be the complete answer to the problem, but we will give it a try and also check the results of the blood tests next week.
Boomer and Trooper at both coming in to crates in my office at night now. Trooper tries to get in the bedroom every time, but both boys are content in their crates and not even overly anxious to go out first thing in the morning. They have both met all of our household dogs and get along with them fine. That's important because they seem like they may be long termers. Boomer will be very adoptable, however, if we can get him healthy and put some weight on him.
