Glacier National Park, 2017

Back in July we went to Montana for my niece's wedding. After that, we went to Glacier for a few days. We did the grand tour staying one night each in three of the old hotels that had been built by the railroads to promote tourism in the parks many years ago.

The first stop was at the Prince of Wales hotel, which is actually in Waterton National Park in Canada. It was incredibly beautiful, both the scenery and the hotel itself, and I had the good fortune of spotting a black bear on an early morning hike while we were there.

The second night we stayed at a hotel at Many Glaciers. This place was much busier, packed with tourists, and yet I managed to see a moose on an evening walk around a nearby lake.

 The third day took us on a road called the Highway to the Sun. It's basically a narrow pathway carved out of the side of a mountain barely wide enough for a two lane road. I didn't see a lot of the scenery because I had my eyes averted from the impending doom that was inches from us for the entire route. However, at the top of the pass was area called Logan's Pass where we hiked up a trail and saw many mountain goats.

It was a beautiful trip and a lot of fun. If the republicans have their way, our national parks will be turned into oil fields, strip mines, bowling alleys, or bible camps, so get out and enjoy them while you can.
