Five Week Milestones

Carlsberg has passed the nine pound mark.

Della and I have rejoined Clay and the rest of the pack in the bedroom at night. The pups get along fine without us. Della still wants to get up during the night, but I hope she will break that habit. Still, 5:00 a.m. is wake up time around here. For the Danes that is, but when two Great Danes are awake in the bedroom, no one sleeps.

The pups have graduated from gruel to mush to pre-moistened solid food, making use of those teeth that are coming in. It makes clean up easier. Puppies are poop monsters. We are making weekly trips to the dump with all the newspaper garbage they generate.

The pups have met children. They weren't sure at first, but they soon found that they liked them. Of course, they were Proctor children. Infer what you will from that.

Puppies also met the vacuum monster and they did not like that. We will be working on de-sensitization.

Killian went to the vet today just for a blood draw for a DNA test. His genes are going to represent the entire litter. They do all look alike aside from coat pattern/color. I am willing to bet they are all Danes and nothing but Danes. The size of the poop is enough to convince me.

Facebook still sucks. They restored my posts except for the one about Smokey and they are refusing to respond to requests to review the blocking of that post for alleged violations of community standards concerning spam. The post clearly isn't spam. The biggest frustration is that there is no way to contact an actual person for an actual answer. The content of the post obviously upset some people, it upset me too, but that's life in rescue. It's not all happy. Walk a mile in my shoes.

Della is gaining weight. She's eating four cups of food three times a day now, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Serena (who eats four cups of food twice a day) doesn't understand why she doesn't get to eat lunch with Della. We've stopped supplementing Della's food for the most part, but we do still have some cottage cheese that needs to be used up. She's also off of the puppy food, she's now eating the same diet as Serena and Theo. Oh, and she loves me.

So here we are at five weeks.

Killian: 7 pounds, 10 ounces
Peroni: 7 pounds, 8 ounces

Guinness: 8 pounds

Paulaner: 7 pounds, 11 ounces

Stella: 7 pounds, 8 ounces
Chimay: 7 pounds, 13 ounces

Abita: 7 pounds, 9 ounces
Duvel: 8 pounds, 10 ounces

Allagash: 8 pounds, 8 ounces

Carlsberg: 9 pounds, 8 ounces

Modelo: 8 pounds, 9 ounces

Sierra: 8 pounds, 10 ounces

As you can see, Carlberg (green line) is breaking away from the pack.
He will likely reach 10 pounds on Friday.

I definitely share in the thought that these are pure Dane pups; mainly because of the Merle and Harlequin coats which are recessive genes. It will be interesting to see what Killian's DnA test says. Either way they are growing fast and will make 12 families extremely happy
