Marvelous Mercedes

I don't think I've ever had a dog move into our house so smoothly. It's been an easy transition for herself and for the rest of the household. Mercedes moved in and managed to discern the "routine" among the chaotic madness that often characterizes this place. She immediately recognized me as a person of some importance around here and proceeded to follow me every step I went for the first few days. I'd like to think she was bonding, but I think it's more likely that she was just gathering information.

Generally speaking our resident dogs don't much like fosters coming into the bedroom to sleep with the pack, but Mercedes came in the first night and no one raised a lip or an eyebrow. She's been off leash since the first day around the yard, completely trustworthy, not looking to roam, just looking to come back in to the house after doing her business. I don't crate her indoors, there is no need.

We were told that she's 11 years old, but she really doesn't look it or act it. She's been around long enough to figure out dogs and people and she handles both like an old pro. Mercedes enjoys the hikes and two miles is not a problem for her. She was out front and leading the entire way, but also not pulling on the leash. She's even good with cats. This dog really is a gem, a wonderful, loyal, and faithful companion, and not a pain in the ass.

This is Mercedes in the pasture, taking off down the hill after
Theo who was chasing a ball. She doesn't act 11 years old.
