Big Theo and Little Leo

Leo is doing great around here so far. He has met all of the pack, except Max. He was fine in the crate in my office the first night. I made a vet appointment Thursday morning and got him in for vaccines and heartworm test (all negative). He weighed in just shy of 60 pounds, which was more than I expected. And he was a good boy at the vet, which is always a bonus. I've been keeping him out in Daneland during the day together with Theo, thinking that Theo is good company and a good influence/role model for acceptable shepherd behavior. They seem to get along fine and Leo doesn't pester him too much.
Leo is a long-haired sable, and that
wavy fur is really gorgeous.

Thursday afternoon I took Theo and Leo out for a hike at Pleasant Grove. It was a rather warm day and quite humid, it even sprinkled on us for a while, but we made 4.3 miles and had a good time. There were quite a few other people out there today so these two were a good choice as hiking companions. A woman stopped us early on and asked if they were friendly. She spent some time loving on Theo and he really enjoyed that. Leo just watched for the most part, but that's fine, it was good for him to learn that other people are ok if Theo and I say so.

I used a rope harness on both of them. Both were the same length starting out, but it took much more of the rope to wrap around Theo's big body than Leo's scrawny frame. The result was that Leo enjoyed a longer leash and about half a body's length lead.

He's going to grow up to be a gorgeous dog.

It was a warm and humid winter day. When we finally
arrived at Sparky's watering hole Theo waded right into
the deepest part.

Leo didn't mind getting his feet wet but he didn't go in
any deeper than necessary to get a drink of the cool water.

They walked very well together.

Leo is a beautiful boy. I wish Siegfried would accept sibling in his house, because I'd be there in a minute. I'm sure you won't have him long.
