Faulty alignment

Sometimes the stars just align perfectly. The right foster dog, the right adopters, the right time and place. I know there have been days or weekends when I've had three dogs adopted, maybe more, I really have a bad memory. Then there are days when the stellar alignment is off, severely out of kilter even. Today was one of those days.

Erika had set up meetings with potential adopters for Kaya and Betty White. Both looked like they had potential. In addition, I had a another meeting scheduled for Thor on Saturday. That was one potential placement for each of our three foster dogs. I figured the odds were good that something would happen, even one would be great.

The meeting with Kaya went well enough. She certainly did her part. That dog just shows very well. I suspect she'd be great at adoption events. She's cute, sweet, and smart. But there was no spark. The folks who were coming to meet Betty White never showed up at all. I waited 45 minutes past the time they were due and they didn't come and didn't call. We were actually more than a little concerned about them because it sounded like they were eager to meet her. And while waiting for those folks, I checked my email and learned that tomorrow's Thor meeting had been called off.

I have learned not to get too emotionally invested in an adoption prospect because they can fall apart for any number of reasons, both good and bad. So I'm not upset or even disappointed. It needs to be right for the adopters and for the dogs and it can't be forced, it just has to happen.

Something may yet come of one or more of these prospects, sooner or later, for another foster perhaps. For Kaya, Betty White, and Thor, it's back to the drawing board for now. We will continue looking for the right home for each of them and in the meantime, as I said recently, this is a good time of year to be a dog around here. The weather is nice, the grass is green, and they have room to run and friends to run with.

And as of today they have a new friend and fellow foster dog, a female black German Shepherd Dog named Greta. More on her in days to come. She's very sweet, and together with Thor, they make a nice matched set of dogs. She brings us to four fosters and 10 dogs in the house all together. A nice round number.

Thor

Betty White sure can run.

Kaya

Whatever this was, it must have smelled good because
Betty White stopped running long enough to roll in it.

And here's the new girl, Greta. She's underweight, she's recently had puppies, she's got some scabs
on her muzzle, but all of that is superficial and should be easily fixed. She's a pretty girl and seems
to be just as sweet as she is pretty.
