Greta's adoption day

I took Greta to meet a nice young couple the other day and they wanted to adopt her. Their application was approved and they came out this morning to pick her up to begin her new life.

Greta had been abandoned, with puppies, which tells us that her prior owners were shit, and yet her house manners were excellent and she seemed to know her away around the human world to some extent, which usually indicates that she had a decent home at some point in her life anyway. Like many things in rescue, it's a mystery and we have to deal with not knowing and just move forward. Fortunately, that's the attitude that dogs always seem to take anyway. They don't let their past define them, they can and usually will overcome horrible life experiences and move on to be absolutely wonderful dogs. I suspect that Greta will be one of those. She will need some time to adjust and to trust, but my experience with most dogs, and certainly most shepherds, is that once they trust you, they are all in and they trust you with their entire being.

These were nice folks and they were sort of shepherd-starved, and entirely dogless after losing their last one. They will lavish a lot of love and attention on her and that is exactly what she needs. So I'm hopeful.

They came out this morning and I was busy making sure they had everything, so I didn't get a lot of new pictures, but have included some "best of" Greta to enjoy as we bid her farewell. She is a nice, gentle, sweet girl. She was an easy foster. I can't say that about very many female shepherds. She's had some tough times, but I know her new home will do everything they can to give her the best possible life from here on.
