What's not to love?

Daisy and Maya know dogs' secret to love.
To get love, you've got to give love.
Saturday was Valentine's Day and it was also an adoption event for Promises Animal Rescue. I loaded up my three Promises dogs, Scooby, Groot, and Daisy, plus Maya, and off we went to northern Virginia for the day.

Maya was just along for the ride because I didn't have time to get her out for a hike in the morning, Clay wasn't going to be at home, and I can't leave her home alone unless she's had her hike.

The dogs were good.  Daisy was less scared at first than she had been at her first outing. She found a nice woman to sit with in a spot where she felt safe and comfortable. She warmed up after a while and began to relax a bit. She will get there.

Scooby was sweet and playful. He worked his magic on the volunteer who was holding him. She has another black lab at home. Her husband stopped by, met Scooby, and the end result was me going by their place on our way home. The two dogs met, got along, and they are submitting an application to adopt Scooby, which I hope will happen this coming week.

And then there's Groot. Groot has always been good at adoption events. He's cute, sweet, lovable, and huggable. He charmed his way into a new home yesterday. This one is a single man, an adult, who lives in a log cabin on several acres, with a fence, about a mile from the Appalachian Trail up near Front Royal. Sounds idyllic for me and perfect for Groot too. He had been looking for a new dog for about as long as Groot had been looking for a new home and they seemed to be a good match. There are no kids, no cats, or other apparent obstacles to adoption. The adopter is under no delusions that Groot is a perfect dog, but he's got great potential.
Groot showed remarkable restraint in a
store full of treats at dog level.

A two-hour adoption event is even more tiring
than a two hour hike.

Daisy even relaxed enough to try to nap.
Maya stuck by me.

This is Scooby meeting his prospective
new sister on our way home yesterday.
Daisy accepted treats from strangers, would
let people approach her, and she even
approached people on her own occasionally.
