Husky Humor

TJ is adjusting to life in our house. It might be more accurate to say that we are adjusting to life with TJ in our house. I no longer doubt that he's a very senior dog, 11 going on 12 years old. Although he did that five mile hike with great energy and enthusiasm, I think that was mostly about being off the chain and free to move about for the first time in ages. He paid for it the next day as he was visibly tired and sore. His coat and body condition also reflects his age, but his teeth look really great and overall he's in great condition for his age.

He's got a vet appointment on Thursday, which will hopefully result in him being neutered if there's no reason (such as heartworms) that they can't do the surgery. At his age, I don't hold out a lot of hope that it will change his marking behavior, however. I've been following him around the house with a bucket and rags cleaning up after him. At least the other boys haven't felt the need to compete with him.

Maya and I took him on another 5 miler today, so I'm hoping for a good night's sleep. He only stayed in the crate the first night and he only stayed downstairs in the kitchen the second night. Last night he broke the baby gate and came upstairs and slept right outside the bedroom door. He obviously wants to be part of the pack.

What a handsome old man. Has he started to sing for you yet?
