Chase

Today was the day all decent people have been waiting for, the day we feared might never come, or we might not survive to see. It was a beautiful day. Democracy triumphed while pettiness caught a flight to Florida. And Chase got adopted too.

Chase had spent most of Monday at a vet's office because we had seen blood in his urine on Sunday. They checked him over and even did an ultrasound before concluding that he just had a urinary tract infection, perhaps precipitated by his cryptorchid neuter surgery last week. He's been on antibiotics and there's no visible blood in his urine already, and none dripping from him as there had been. Hopefully that will all be resolved with the antibiotics.

Chase has grown up and learned to stand on his own four feet since being separated from his brother, Winston. He's become his own dog and he's a very sweet one. He responds when you call him, rather than simply waiting to follow Winston as he had done. He's been sleeping in the bedroom at night for the past week, and in bed with me after Clay gets up early in the morning.

Chase is moving to a new home with three small dogs, which may be the biggest challenge in his future. The best case scenario that I can see is that one of the littles is a bossy bitch who will take him under her wing and teach him how to act.
