Fall preview

Hurricane Ida mostly passed us by, but we did get about an inch of rain from the tail end of the storm. And of course the day was warm and muggy, very tropical feeling air. Before the sun went down in the evening the sky had begun to clear and Thursday morning we had cool, fresh air, a nice breeze, and a clear blue sky. It was the prettiest day we've had in months, a preview of fall, which for my money, is the best season in Virginia.

My workload was relatively light so I got out for a romp in the pasture with the dogs in the afternoon and again in the evening. And I've got a decent sized pack to take out now too - seven dogs:  Della, Serena, Max, Rufus, Melly, Hugo, and Lexie. Seven dogs is a good group, you can see a dog or several in any direction and a few of them are always with me.

It was Lexie's first time in the pasture and she really enjoyed herself. Rufus has taken a liking to Lexie and followed her everywhere, which got him a good amount of exercise. I played frisbee with Hugo, of course, and much to my surprise, Melly seemed to show some interest in the disc as well. She knows she can't run after it, but I've got to give the big girl credit - she's not lazy, she moved around at lot out there, just not as fast as some of the others. Those two will drop the excess weight, they have probably already started, but it's not going to be a fast process. I am less optimistic about my own prospects for weight loss, but when cooler weather gets here I will start walking more again.

Rufus

This was Lexie's first pasture run and she made the most of it.

Lexie is barely visible behind Serena. Rufus is following.

Hugo taking a break in the tall grass.

Lexie had a great time out there.

Della was off hunting bunnies along the tree line mostly.

Lexie has almost a pointer pose here, but she's in motion.

Hugo and Rufus

Rufus is a good looking shepherd.

He'll look a lot better when he's 10-15 pounds lighter.

Max and Hugo

He doesn't catch them all, but he tries for them all.

Rufus and Melly

None of them are facing the camera but all seven dogs are in this picture.
