Temporary Dane

His name is Arlo. He's a young male, blue harlequin Great Dane, about 18 months old, still full of puppy energy. He's just boarding here for the week; he belongs to a friend of a friend. The timing was good because we are down to just Norman as a foster. The real reason I agreed to take him in though, is that I thought he would make a great playmate for Bailey. I was not wrong.

He arrived very early this morning but I had everyone fed and back in the house already because Bailey starts our day at 5:00 a.m. Della wanted to be the first to meet him. He was happy to see her. They made appropriate introductions and then he wanted to play. She responded to his play invites with her usual wait-and-see attitude, but she did not dislike him. Maya met him and proceeded to ignore him. Elvis displayed his little big dog demeanor that got him into trouble with the last foster Dane, but Arlo backed off and there were no problems. Paisley met him and displayed her well known lack of social skills. I didn't push for him to meet Candace, he's just a bit much for the older girls, both Candace and Maya.

The one I most wanted him to meet was Bailey and they immediately began to play a way of getting acquainted. They can both be a bit much for many other dogs due to their age, energy level, and in Arlo's case, his size. But they were good together. Bailey can make up for what she lacks in size with her speed, energy, and in-your-face attitude. I kept them together in the a/c yard for much of the morning.

The only large, 6 foot fenced area I have is Daneland, which is Norman's home at the moment. But Norman needs some time out of there so I moved him to the dog yard and pasture and then moved Arlo and Bailey to Daneland for the afternoon. They had more room, it was a new space for him, and the 6' fence keeps Bailey in, at least for now.

Bailey and Arlo are both crashed out hard this evening. They will be sharing the office, in separate crates, at night. They will sleep it off and probably be ready to go again about midnight. It should be a fun week.
