More Meetings

A couple of prior adopters came out today to meet Romeo. He ran out of the house and ran right up to them, gave them a big bark or two, but his tail was happy and he immediately began looking for treats which they immediately provided. I do think he is beginning to see strangers as potential food sources and that is a very good thing. He has no problem being close and he will take treats from anyone, but touching is another level of trust that will just take some time with this guy.

He ate a lot of treats and some of our turkey and enjoyed their visit very much. Just as they were leaving another former adopter came out, two-time rottweiler adopter, my friend Mary Jane. She came to meet Arby.

She also came well supplied with treats and we learned some new things about Arby in the course of her visit. He likes treats, and he will "sit" and give then automatically offer up his paw, doing the "sit" and "shake" routine that he obviously knows well. The other thing we learned about Arby is that he likes toys! We did the meetings out in Daneland and there was a toy out there that had come along with Romeo. We don't have toys around here because Serena chews them up and eats the remains, so Arby hadn't had a toy until he found that one today. He played with it like a puppy, tossing it around, running after it, generally having a good time. It was nice to see.

I brought Romeo out to meet Mary Jane as well and this time he didn't even bark, he just went into treat seeking mode immediately. He ended up laying down in front of her, quite content, happy and relaxed, but he still didn't allow her to touch or pet him. I was very encouraged though that he now seems to view new people as treat dispensers and not as something dangerous and scary.

It was good day and I topped it off with a four mile hike with Della and Maya.
