Other dogs

The thing about having a litter of pups is that the other dogs in the household take a hit in the amount of time and attention they receive. That's inevitable because the puppies require more than their share and there's only so much to go around.

I must say that our other dogs are handling it very well, however. The fact that several of them are older helps, because they don't require as much activity. And it's been hot and unpleasant, so no one is overly active anyway. The one dog that those factors don't apply to is Della, but I think she recognizes (remembers) what it means to have puppies. She's been surprisingly gracious to Lexie and tolerant of my time spent with the puppies because she knows what we are dealing with. She's probably just glad that it's not her responsibility this time. She was a good mother but I'm pretty sure it's not an experience she wanted to repeat, especially now that she's assumed the full range of farm dog duties around here. I've been taking her along when I go outside to check on the puppies and taking her on car trips whenever possible, so she's at least getting out and doing something.

This evening Clay and I both went out to mow and took Max, Hugo, Della, and Serena along with us. It was cooler and less humid than it has been in quite a while, so everyone had a good run.

This is a really short clip of a real good catch.
