New arrangements

Any new arrival of dogs at our house always requires some new arrangements. Yesterday we took in two former fosters, just until the end of the week -- Rorschach, a harlequin Dane who was part of the group of Danes seized from a breeder back in 2019, and MoDean, one of Della's puppies. That's a lot of dog. When they stayed here in the past I had them out in Daneland and the puppy palace, but that is occupied by actual puppies right now. They came inside, up to my office, and we worked out new arrangements.

The other thing that happened yesterday was that I drove Jericho over to Waynesboro so he could be taken up to Harrisonburg today to be neutered along with several other GDU dogs and cats. He will be back Wednesday evening, which will require another adjustment.

We started the night with Rorschach and MoDean in the two large Dane crates in the office. Sherlock (bloodhound) and Rocket (husky) were in the other two crates. That left Star alone in a crate in the kitchen. The Danes were not having it, particularly Rorschach. I got up, took them outside, and brought them back to the office but didn't crate them this time. That seemed to make them happier but then we heard from Rocket. I got up at 2:00 a.m., without yet having gone to sleep, and moved Rocket downstairs to the crate next to Star, leaving Sherlock in the crate upstairs, with Rorschach and MoDean loose in the office. That got us through what remained of the night but I had to come up with a new arrangement for the day.

Rocket has been wanting and needing a playmate and with Jericho gone for the day, Sherlock was the obvious choice. I put the two of them in Daneland 2 (the far side of the divided Daneland space). They soon started playing together. The puppies came out of the puppy shed this morning into Daneland 1, but there's a divider between the two areas and I put up another layer of fencing between them just for good measure. No problem.

I've got Rorschach and MoDean in the dog yard for now at least, to give them some outdoor time and space of their own. Della seemed interested in possibly playing with MoDean, so I'll try that during a break later this morning. Those two Danes can come back up to the office at any point during the day. When Jericho gets home Wednesday evening after his neuter he will need crate rest for a few days anyway.

I'm going to contact the woman who met Star and see if she's prepared to take her on as a foster. Star has continued to make progress and I think she's ready for the next step. Speaking of progress, Candace came up to Clay trying to hustle food from him as he was eating this morning.
